Terms of Service

1. Who we are

My Whiskey Shelf is a product of Nisshagen Advisory AB (Org.nr 559526-6742), a company registered in Stockholm, Sweden. “We”, “us” and “our” refer to Nisshagen Advisory AB. Questions about these terms: hello@mywhiskeyshelf.com.

2. What the service is

My Whiskey Shelf lets you record the whiskey you own, log pours against those bottles, keep a shopping list and a record of your accessories, track progress through collecting sets, and browse a reference catalogue of whiskies. It can read a bottle label from a photograph and look a bottle up from its barcode, and it can export everything you have entered. It is a personal record-keeping tool. It is not advice about what to buy or drink, and it is not a marketplace.

These terms apply however you obtained the app, including through a test build, and they apply to this website whether or not you have the app.

Nothing on this site is an offer or a commitment to release, keep or price any particular feature. Descriptions of intended functionality may change or be abandoned.

3. Age requirement

The service concerns alcoholic spirits and is intended solely for adults of legal drinking age in their country of residence. By using the app or the site, you confirm that you meet that requirement, and the app asks you to confirm it when you create an account. We do not sell alcohol and nothing here should be read as an inducement to drink.

4. Your account and your content

The app creates an anonymous account on first launch so you can use it without signing up. You may later create a real account with an email address and password, with a one-time sign-in link, or with Sign in with Google or Sign in with Apple. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for everything done through your account.

Turning an anonymous account into an email and password account, or linking a Google account to it, keeps the same account and the same shelf. Signing in with Apple, with a one-time link, or with an email account you already had signs you in to a different account, and the shelf you built anonymously stays behind on the old one where you can no longer reach it. The app warns you before that happens. Take the warning seriously.

The bottles, notes, ratings, pours and photographs you enter are yours. We claim no ownership of them. We do not publish them, they are not visible to other users, and we do not sell or license them to anyone.

To run the service for you, you give us the limited permission we need to store, copy, transmit and display your content, including sending a label photograph to our AI provider so it can be read. That permission is only for operating and improving the service for you, it is not exclusive, and it ends when you delete the content or the account, apart from copies in routine backups. We do not use your content to train any model of our own. What Google does with a label photograph is governed by Google’s own terms and is outside our control; the Privacy Policy says so plainly.

You must have the right to upload what you upload. Do not photograph or upload anything you do not have permission to use, and do not upload other people.

Bottles are stored in an inventory shared with My Bar Shelf, so that a bottle you own is a single record across both. If you use both apps under the same account, adding, editing or deleting a bottle in one affects the other. That is intended behaviour, not a fault.

You may delete your account at any time from inside the app, at Profile then Delete account, or from your account page on this website. It removes your bottles from the shared inventory, so they also disappear from My Bar Shelf, along with your pours, notes, shopping list, accessories and saved photographs. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. The account deletion page sets out the steps, and the Privacy Policy sets out exactly what is removed and what is not.

5. Subscriptions and purchases

Parts of the app are free and parts are reserved for subscribers. Where a feature is reserved, the app tells you before you use it.

We do not sell or bill the subscription. It is sold and billed by Apple through the App Store, or by Google through Google Play, depending on where you got the app. Your payment relationship is with them, your payment details are held by them, and we never see or receive them.

Auto-renewal. A subscription renews automatically at the price shown until you cancel it. The title of the subscription, the length of the renewal period, what it includes and the price are shown on the purchase screen in the app before you buy, and again on the receipt the store sends you. Payment is charged to your store account at confirmation of purchase, and the renewal is charged within the 24 hours before the current period ends.

Cancelling. Cancel at any time in your App Store account settings or in your Google Play subscriptions, at least 24 hours before the current period ends, or it renews for another period. The app links to those settings from Profile. We cannot cancel it for you. Deleting the app does not cancel it, and deleting your My Whiskey Shelf account does not cancel it either: cancel it in the store first, or the store will keep billing you.

Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies, and we cannot issue them. This does not affect any statutory right you have as a consumer in your own country.

Price changes to an existing subscription do not take effect without your agreement, which the store asks for under its own rules.

One subscription covers every Shelf app on the same account. It is tied to your account, not to a single app or device, so a subscription bought in another Shelf app unlocks this one. That requires a real account signed in to both. While you are anonymous nothing carries across. Use Restore purchases on the paywall if a subscription you already hold is not showing, and make sure you are signed in with the same account you bought it on.

If a subscription lapses, nothing is deleted. Your shelf, your pours, your notes and your photographs stay where they are and stay readable. The features reserved for subscribers stop working until you subscribe again.

The free AI scan allowance is five scans in total for the lifetime of the account, shared across every Shelf app you use with that account. It is not a monthly allowance and it does not reset.

6. The AI label scan

The app can photograph a bottle label and use an AI model to read it, then fill the add form with what it read. Three things follow from that.

The reading is a guess. It can be wrong, it can be incomplete, and it can miss a bottle entirely. You see every field before anything is saved and you can change any of them. Check the reading. Do not treat it as a valuation, an authentication, proof of age, proof of provenance or proof of what is in the bottle.

The photograph leaves your device. It is sent to our server and on to Google, which reads it. Section 4 of the Privacy Policy sets out exactly what is sent, when, and what we do and do not know about what happens to it afterwards. If that is not acceptable to you, do not use the scan: adding a bottle by barcode, by catalogue search or by hand sends no photograph anywhere.

Do not work around the allowance. Creating multiple accounts, or using automated tools, to get more than the free scan allowance is a breach of these terms.

7. Barcode lookups and shared barcode data

Scanning a barcode sends the barcode digits to external barcode databases if we do not already hold the product. Those services are listed in the Privacy Policy, along with what they receive.

If you confirm that a barcode belongs to a particular catalogue product, that mapping is saved to a table shared with My Bar Shelf and used to answer the same scan for other people. You are contributing it, not licensing your shelf: the saved row holds the barcode, the product and the identifier of the contributing account, and nothing else. Do not submit mappings you know to be wrong.

8. The catalogue, commerce and affiliate links

The app includes a reference catalogue derived from Systembolaget’s public product listing. Where a price is shown it is Swedish retail and is presented as a fact about the bottle, for orientation only. Nothing in the catalogue links to a shop. There is no basket and no shop integration, and no alcohol is for sale by us or through us anywhere in the app or on this site.

This site carries links to whisky accessories on Amazon.se: glasses, tools, books and similar gear. Never bottles, and never any alcoholic product. These are affiliate links under the Amazon Associates programme. If you buy something through one of them, My Whiskey Shelf earns a small commission from Amazon. The price you pay does not change. Every such link is marked Ad. The app carries no such links.

Catalogue data is provided as-is and may be incomplete, out of date or wrong. Several fields, including style, distillery, origin and age, are derived from the product name and are best-effort guesses that you can correct on your own entry. Do not rely on catalogue data for anything that matters.

My Whiskey Shelf is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or connected to Systembolaget, or to any distillery, bottler or brand named in the catalogue. Product names and trade marks belong to their respective owners and are used for identification only.

9. What you may not do

• Use the service for any unlawful purpose
• Create accounts in bulk or by automated means, or use multiple accounts to get around a limit or an allowance
• Upload images you do not have the right to use
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the service, its hosting, its database or another user’s account
• Use automated tools to scrape, bulk-extract, overload or probe the service, its catalogue or its shared data
• Resell, redistribute or commercially exploit the catalogue data or any other part of the service
• Copy or reproduce the design, code, text or branding without written permission

We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms.

10. Intellectual property

My Whiskey Shelf, including the app, this site, and their design, code, copy, photography and branding, is owned by Nisshagen Advisory AB. You may not reproduce, distribute or create derivative works from it without written permission. This does not affect your ownership of the content you enter.

11. Availability and changes

We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the service. We will give reasonable notice of a change that materially reduces what the service does, where it is practical to do so, and where such a change materially reduces what a paid subscription provides you may cancel it in the store. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.

12. Disclaimers

The service is provided “as is” and “as available”. We make no warranty that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any information in it, including catalogue data, derived fields, AI label readings, barcode lookups and suggestions, is accurate, complete or current. Any statement about a future feature is a statement of present intention only.

Nothing in the service is health, legal, financial or valuation advice. Alcohol carries health risks, and its sale and consumption are regulated differently in every country; complying with the law where you live is your responsibility. Do not use the app’s suggestions as a reason to drink.

Keep your own backup of anything you would be upset to lose. The app can export everything you have entered, at Profile then Data then Export your data. We take reasonable care, but we do not guarantee against data loss.

13. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by Swedish law, Nisshagen Advisory AB is not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, from any reliance on catalogue data, derived data or an AI label reading, or from any statement about a future feature. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud, and nothing in them affects the mandatory rights of a consumer.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we do, we will publish the updated version here and update the version number and effective date at the top of this page. Continued use after that constitutes acceptance.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by Swedish law, and disputes will be resolved in Swedish courts. If you are a consumer resident in the EU, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory rules of your own country.
